Well about 3 weeks ago, I had to upgrade my Netgear Router because my old one was on the fritz…the upgrade was pretty painless, but while our Macbook has been working with the new router ok, it has not been the same since I upgraded my router. The Airport was showing a connection to the new Router with a decent signal strength according to MacStumbler (which rocks btw!).

I have tried everything to see what’s going on including clearing the local dns cache via “lookupd -flushcache” from Terminal to no avail. What’s weird is that eventually I could get connected but browsing would be slow and painful. So finally yesterday, it basically quit working and even though I was connected to my local wireless router, I couldn’t get to the internet. What is even stranger is that I couldn’t hit 192.168.1.1 (local router admin page) - that is a key to my recent discovery:

Apparently, even is the Airport is connected to a new network, it appears to hold on to the old DNS settings in the Network Settings. So for some reason, even though the Airport was connected to the new network which is on 192.168.1.1, the Network Preferences was still holding on to the old DNS and router setting of 192.168.0.1

As soon as I updated this setting, browsing is blazing fast again!

Cheers! Matthew
